Gen-X Workers Show Less Negative Sentiment Towards AI in New Study
A recent Glassdoor study reveals that Gen-X workers hold a less negative view of artificial intelligence in the workplace compared to millennial and Gen-Z employees.

- Gen-X workers express less negative sentiment towards artificial intelligence in the workplace.
- 46.1% of Gen-X workers reported positive views on AI use.
- Millennials and Gen-Z workers showed lower positive sentiment at 38.6% and 32.2% respectively.
- Overall sentiment towards AI remained largely negative across all age groups.
Gen-X workers exhibit a more positive, or at least less negative, attitude toward artificial intelligence in the workplace compared to younger generations, according to a recent Glassdoor study reported by Bloomberg. The study found that 46.1% of workers identified as Gen-X expressed positive sentiments regarding AI use in their jobs.
This contrasts with millennials, where 38.6% spoke positively about AI, and Gen-Z workers, with only 32.2% reporting favorable views. While the majority of sentiment across all generational groups remained predominantly negative, Gen-X stands out as an outlier due to the nearly half of its members who view AI positively. This data suggests Gen-X does not feel intensely positive or negative about AI.
An earlier Pew survey had also hinted at a similar trend, observing a relative apathy from 50- to 64-year-olds regarding AI, without the intense positive or negative reactions seen in other age groups.
Chris Martin, a senior economist at Glassdoor, noted that the long-held concern about older workers' inability or unwillingness to adopt new technologies making them obsolete has not materialized with AI, at least not yet.
The Glassdoor analysis draws its data from self-selected reviews submitted by users. While this method may not represent the most rigorous approach to gathering public opinion, its findings still offer valuable insights into workplace sentiment.
