Samsung's One UI 8.5 update has introduced significant new customization features to its Good Lock application, allowing users to personalize Quick Settings and lock screen animations. These enhancements arrived ahead of the broader rollout of One UI 9, which is based on Android 17.

Samsung has rolled out new customization options through its Good Lock application, coinciding with the One UI 8.5 update. These features provide users with more control over their device's interface, particularly in Quick Settings and lock screen transitions. While the stable version of One UI 9, built on Android 17, is set to arrive soon for the Samsung Galaxy S26 series, and already launched with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, current Galaxy users can access these new personalization tools.

Quick Settings Customization with QuickStar

The QuickStar module within Good Lock now offers advanced customization for the Quick Settings panel, extending beyond the traditional ability to rearrange tiles. Users can now resize individual tiles and reorient sliders, enabling the creation of custom Quick Settings layouts. A significant new feature is the option to apply custom images to various sections of the Quick Settings background. This granular control allows for individual pictures on the main panel, the volume and brightness sliders, the media button, and even standalone buttons such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. However, a reported drawback of adding background images to standalone buttons is the removal of their original icons and labels, which can make identification difficult. When a function is activated on such a button, only a thin highlight ring appears, which is particularly challenging to see in dark mode. Beyond visual changes, QuickStar includes practical improvements. Its Advanced settings feature "Show bar levels" to display the exact percentage for volume and brightness sliders. Another option, "Resize panel items," allows users to stretch any button to almost any desired size.

Enhanced Lock Screen Animations with LockStar

The LockStar module has been updated with new unlock animations designed to transform the transition from the lock screen to the home screen. Among the new effects are Mosaic, which dissolves the screen into a pixelated pattern; Glitch, which fills the display with horizontal lines, mimicking a faulty screen; and Swirl, which generates a rotating effect around the screen's center. Users have the flexibility to modify the duration of these effects by adjusting the animation time. Further customization is available through the Interpolator setting, which dictates how specific parts of the animation behave. For instance, "Ease in" makes the later portion of an animation more dramatic, while "Ease out" emphasizes the beginning. The "Bouncer" interpolator divides the animation time into multiple parts, adjusting the bounce with decreasing intensity, similar to a bouncing ball. Some animations also offer unique, specific controls, such as the direction of the Swirl effect or the size of the Glitch noise.
